ADVISORY
Dodge City Middle School defines student advocacy as an attitude of caring which supports and defends the student personally and academically. The advisory periods focuses on activities that will assist in developing a caring relationship between students and a significant adult. In addition to the caring environment and the relationship, students will have opportunities to discuss issues and concerns pertaining to their particular needs in the areas of academics and peer relationships.
September - Establishing Student Goals Criteria
- Student’s will self-assess their progress based on learning goals.
- Each student will have a new learning goal for each nine weeks and measure their accomplishment on the previous goal.
- Students will be coached on ways to share goals and strategies to obtain these goals with their parent or guardian.

Constitution Week - September
The bill designates the week containing September 17 (or any other full school week as determined by the local school board) as “Celebrate Freedom Week,” during which public schools are required to teach to grades kindergarten through eight the history of the country’s founding, with particular emphasis on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. The bill prohibits censorship of religious references in the writings of the founding fathers when presented as part of the instruction. |

Anti-Bullying Awareness Week: “Take a Stand, Lend a Hand”
The theme for this year’s Anti-Bullying Awareness Week will be “Take a Stand, Lend a Hand.” The idea this year is to align our State Board/KSDE initiatives such as service learning, civic engagement, bullying prevention, suicidal ideation and child abuse under one focus- don’t be a bystander, helping others promotes pro-social behavior and helps to diminish anti-social behavior.
