Our first activity for Remind will begin during the week of November 10 with a survey. Each student will be sent a link to the activities using the Remind services. The link outlines how Dodge City Middle School will participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program for Secondary Schools. Starting on November 17, our school will choose 4 fruits and 4 vegetables from the pre-determined list for 8 tastings. A one-page nutrition fact sheet has been provided for every advisory teacher of the listed fruits and vegetable scheduled to be tasted. The nutrition facts include information on how the produce is grown, nutrition tidbits, how to incorporate the fruit or vegetable into a diet, a food safety tip, and an external web link for further exploration.
Our school will use the fact sheets handouts and tip sheets during advisory as part of the tasting experience. Students can use iPads to explore the interactive Thinglink posted on the Nutrition website to play videos, look up information and play games during the 4 week program. As a part of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program students will need to complete a pre and post survey (provided by KSDE). This survey will measure opinions about eating fruits and vegetables.
